ABUKA AND PARTNERS
Legal Practitioners

Abuka and Partners, Legal Practitioners, began practising under the name Abuka Ajegbo Ilogu and Nwaogu, on 28 March, 1979. Prior to this, the four partners, who had practised individually and separately, had been in the legal profession since 1970. Following a restructuring of the law firm, the shorter and simpler name Abuka and Partners, Legal Practitioners, was adopted.

The Abuja office was set up in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in 1987, initially with a view to effectively provide the complex and sophisticated legal services required by a major multinational corporate client with businesses in over 90 countries around the world. As the seat of government has moved from Lagos to Abuja, our law firm is in the best position to conduct dealings with government on behalf of our clients from our own office in the new capital. The firm has won the respect of the Nigerian government and of foreign embassies in Nigeria.

The firm represents a large number of international clients and collaborates with correspondent and associate law firms around the world.

We maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and integrity. The firm recognises that every client is unique and, to that extent, our service to each is personalised — as if the client is our only client. We treat client’s business in strict confidentiality. We detail a ‘managing attorney’ for all the work performed for each client.

We are responsive to our clients’ enquiries and have a good understanding of the way the European and US companies do business. The firm holds the Nigerian statutes and case law in a computer database, which is updated regularly in accordance with the developments in Nigerian law to ensure that the database is current.

Furthermore, the different branches of the law in which we specialise are segregated into divisions. The heads of these divisions constantly update the database of their divisions and include benefits, knowledge and experience gained in seminars, workshops and refresher courses attended by members of the firm both locally and abroad. These facilitate computer-aided research.

We adopt a syndicated approach to the clients’ needs. Syndication is the means by which specialists in different fields bring their skills together to bear upon each client’s needs. Syndication ensures that the solutions we offer are in-depth and comprehensive. It addresses all aspects of the matter in hand.
