TRUST UKLO, GAIN KNOWLEDGE

The University of St Kliment Ohridski, Bitola, known by the acronym UKLO, is the second state public university in the Republic of Macedonia. The act of the formal establishment of the university on the 25th April 1979 is a result of a longer process based on historical tradition as the initial foundation for further cultural and scientific progress.

There are almost 40 study programmes for undergraduate studies and 26 for graduate studies spread out across the 10 higher education units, comprising 9 faculties and 1 higher vocational school. These cover different scientific disciplines and educate people according to the demands of the labour market. UKLO also has three research units, the only ones of their kind in the country, a university library and a students’ residence. Today, the University of St Kliment Ohridski, Bitola, consists of the following higher education units:

  • Faculty of technical sciences — Bitola
  • Faculty of technology and techniques — Veles
  • Faculty of economics — Prilep
  • Faculty of tourism and catering — Ohrid
  • Faculty of pedagogy — Bitola
  • Faculty of administration and management of information systems — Bitola
  • Faculty of law — Kichevo
  • Faculty of security studies — Skopje
  • Faculty of biotechnical sciences — Bitola
  • Higher medical school — Bitola.

It also has the following research institutes:

  • Tobacco Institute — Prilep
  • Hydro-Biology Institute — Ohrid
  • Institute for Old Slavic Culture — Prilep.

The university seat is in Bitola and its units, the higher education institutions and research institutes, are located in many city centres — Bitola, Prilep, Ohrid and Skopje — with dispersed study programmes in Veles, Struga, Kichevo and other places.

The dedication to young people’s education is at the centre of this pluralist surrounding, explicitly embedded in the university’s mission and vision statement.

The University of St Kliment Ohridski, Bitola, attracts approximately 3,000 new students per year, and the total number of students in recent years has remains constant at about 13,000 students.

For about three decades of continuous development, the UKLO has been intent on establishing a specific identity which, at the beginning of this century, is affirmed in the statement:

‘Open, flexible, integrated in society, an active partner in social economic processes, ready to face the new challenges in education and science in an international perspective.’

The university has a leading role in the academic and scientific world and as such is driven by key policies and strategies: contemporary, flexible study programmes; a transparent organisational structure (organisational chart); dynamic human-resources management; active policy for social integration of the university; creation of strong relations between the university and business sector; support of new initiatives; internationalisation as a focus point; and implementation of quality-culture in every sphere in which the university operates.

Students trust UKLO and it will entrust your knowledge.
