A DIFFERENT PATH TO SUCCESS IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Created in 1967, Faculté libre de Droit, d’Economie et de Gestion (FACO) is situated in the heart of Paris.

FACO is a not-for-profit institution governed by a board whose President is Jean-Marie Schmitz, General Director of Lafarge Maroc. The faculty also has a dean, elected for a three-year term by the faculty council, the council consisting of the entire teaching body.

Endowed with a corps of high-quality professors, academics and professionals (attorneys, magistrates and international arbitrators), FACO has hosted renowned speakers such as UN former-Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali and Henri de Castries, President of the Board of Directors of AXA.

We accept students after a thorough review of their application and an interview which, in the majority of cases, is carried out in English in order to determine each individual’s ability to follow the weekly nine hours of courses taught in English: English and American literature, civilisation or international judiciary systems.

The majority of our students follow the double-diploma curriculum of law or economics with English. After completing their licence in law or economics (the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree), they go on to complete a fourth year Master in International Law or Business Law. FACO students then pursue further studies in France and in large numbers in foreign universities in England, Canada and the United States, following a course from bachelor’s to master’s to doctoral degrees. These include prestigious schools such as The London School of Economics, The University of Georgetown in Washington DC and McGill University in Montreal. Equally, our students achieve excellent results at the bar exams from Paris to New York.

The training and favourable conditions provided to our students account for their rate of success. Their work with tutors, use of the library and the school’s IT systems all contribute to their success. There are several student organisations on campus, including a student union and an active sports club which support the creation and fulfilment of a genuine school spirit.

During their course of study students must complete a dissertation of some 100 pages, written under the supervision of a member of the teaching staff. It is defended at the end of a year’s preparation before a panel composed of two professors and a practitioner.

FACO, which was founded with the support of major business enterprises, has always kept close ties with the business world. The students are indeed expected to carry out an internship each year as an integral part of their curriculum.

The double curriculum, the international academic opportunity which FACO students enjoy, the teaching of several modern languages including Chinese, place FACO, with its rich cultural diversity, firmly in a globalised economy.
