Established in 1979, Eastern Mediterranean University offers programs fully recognized by Council of Higher Education in Turkey. Having completed its physical infrastructure, the campus spreads over an area of 2200 acres. The University owns unprecedented campus facilities, and creates a multicultural environment with students coming from 68 countries and highly qualified faculty members from 35 different nations. There is a perfect harmony and dialog between the students and the faculty. Thanks to the modern understanding of education shared by all, students are trained as individuals thoroughly learned and endowed with excellent research skills, who can generate new knowledge, who are aware of and meticulous about environmental issues, who are creative, confident and ready to compete with the world youth. In addition to the in-door and out-door sport complexes, the variant of student clubs and the fully-equipped offices they own where all club activities are planned, and the on-campus dormitory facilities reflect the student oriented educational philosophy of Eastern Mediterranean University.

Objectives and Principles
Our aim is to take Eastern Mediterranean University further ahead as the leading academic institution in the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Mediterranean. The points that determine the objectives and principles of EMU while proceeding in this direction are as follows:
  • To train the students as individuals with distinct personality, capable of critical thinking, who are able to contribute to the society on scientific matters, assume professional responsibility, are honest and open to innovations,
  • To develop cultural diversity and empathy within the university and in the society,
  • To contribute to the welfare of the society and peace in the region and the world,
  • To assume a pioneering role in the economic, social and cultural development of the country by giving highest priority to quality in areas of academic freedom, education and research.
  • To be a democratic, transparent and autonomous institution.
  • To present certification programs more efficiently and in a more wide spread manner to the society and institutions by means continuous education or distance education,
  • To formulate university-community collaboration by pulling the attention of the entire community through activities like conferences, seminars, working groups and the like,
  • To prepare scientific research and development projects by considering the primary needs of the society and the country from the standpoint of development and growth,
  • To attach significance to collaboration of university-industry-institution-organization in scientific and technological research activities,
  • To accelerate the scientific and technological innovations and developments geared toward national production practiced at the Technology Development Centre TECHNO PARK.
Campus Environment
EMU is pleased to offer a complete education experience on a magnificent campus, with a modern library, modern classrooms, computer laboratories with highly efficient computer and internet connections, research labs, research centres, dormitories, student activity centre, student clubs, sport complexes, cafeterias and restaurants. Two table d’hot´e restaurants in campus offer 4 different meals for lunch and dinner at a discount price to students. The campus also offers bookstore, health centre, Psychological Guidance & Research Centre, post office, local banks and ATMs (i.e. HSBC), laundry services, Internet cafes, etc.

Life at EMU is fun. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and may join a broad range of social and cultural events in the university. There are numerous student clubs and societies at EMU for a wide range of activities including tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, handball, cricket, climbing, chess, ceramics, journalism, art, science and culture, literature, folklore, drama and animation, music, cinema, photography and many more. Also, every year EMU organizes a week-long International ‘Spring Festival’ which includes all kinds of social, cultural and sport activities. Moreover, the student cinema club holds film shows every week. The EMU Radio and TV station is run by students, and broadcasts musical and cultural programs.

Continuing Education Centre
Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) being the centre of education; has also the mission of educating not only its students but also individuals in public and private sectors through the EMU – Continuing Education Centre (EMU – CEC). The Centre believes that the individuals and the organizations will function more effectively by adopting the philosophy of life – long learning and by being updated with global, technological, theoretical and practical developments in their specialised areas.

EMU – CEC prepares short and long term high quality education programs according to the needs of the society with the help of academic departments and research centre of the University, and organises seminars, courses and certificate programs. Such organisations give the opportunity to enhance the cooperation between the University and the Government, and also with private and international organisations.

The Centre, by offering life-long learning programs, not only helps organisations to learn the new developments and improvements in their sector but also acquires the chance to analyse in-depth the requirements of the industry in order to design the educational programs offered by EMU to students.
